Winter Holidays in the Zillertal ...

Haus Waldruh – Charming Winter Holidays

In winter, a thick layer of snow covers the mountain ridges and the valleys. Each crunching step leaves its traces on the fresh, white surface. Soaked up as if by cotton wool, voices and sounds take on a soft and spaceless feel. Whirling snowflakes transform the landscape into a classic Tyrolean winter.

Ski Slopes – Relaxing or Thrilling

Just five minutes (by car or ski bus) from Haus Waldruh, you’ll find one of the liveliest and most varied ski areas in the Zillertal: Mayrhofen’s Penken-Ahorn.

From Mayrhofen, there are two ways to paradise:

Winter Hiking – Forge your own Path

If you’re looking for an impressive winter experience of your own, the area around Brandberg offers ideal starting points for snow-shoe treks and ski tours.

Trek uphill at your own pace on skis with skins before curving your way back down to the valley through the deep snow.

Cross-Country Skiing – On the Right Track

If you’ve always wanted to try gliding along snowy tracks that sparkle in the sunlight, Mayrhofen and the neighbouring village of Hippach have what you’re looking for. 30 km of well-groomed cross-country skiing trails are available for beginners and more advanced skiers.

Winter Fun Away from the Slopes

Long winter holidays are often full of activities and new experiences. It can do you good to treat yourself to a quieter day now and then. The sauna area and solarium at Mayrhofen’s Erlebnisbad swimming pool offer warmth, calm and relaxation.

Children with endless energy can give their youthful high spirits full reign in the water. The giant slide (101 m) and Crazy River wave pool are great fun for water-lovers.

Snow Ploughing at Ski School

Watching your own children snowploughing down the slopes for the first time is a moving experience. But learning has to be fun! The friendly ski instructors at Mayrhofen’s ski schools will make sure your children enjoy themselves.

The Ahorn-Penken ski area has a wide choice of lifts and nursery slopes for beginners. There are also courses for more advanced skiers: Kids will love the “Mini-Pisten-Flitzer” course.

The Zillertal SuperSkiPass

The Zillertal SuperSkiPass offers endless skiing, snowboarding and carving on 639 kilometres of slopes and 167 lifts.

The Zillertal SuperSkiPass for 4 to 21 days is available from all base stations of the Zillertal mountain lifts and includes all lifts in the Zillertal.

(Ski passes for up to 3.5 days are only available and valid in individual ski areas.)

Winter Wonderland – Snow Glistening in the Sunshine

With the crisp winter air in your lungs, any outdoor activity is revitalising and truly relaxing. The sparkle of freshly fallen snow, perfectly groomed ski slopes, cross-country skiing trails, and hiking paths will conjure up a smile on the faces of all winter sports enthusiasts.

The Zillertal boasts 662 kilometres of slopes, which are all accessible with one ski pass. Our local ski area – Penken-Ahorn – offers seemingly unlimited fun on 136 km of slopes. The ski bus will take you to the cable car stations, which are located centrally in Mayrhofen, within only 10 minutes.

With its wonderful, wide slopes, the Ahorn ski area in the west (named after the 1,965 m-high Ahornspitze mountain) is perfect for leisurely skiers and families who want to carve and cruise their way down the slopes or learn to ski. The action mountain Penken offers challenges for action-lovers – with powder runs, the Penken Snow Park for freestyle acrobatics and the Harakiri run, which has a gradient of 78%.

Pure Nature – Summertime in Brandberg

Winding paths lead deep into alpine valleys. In some, the mountains all but block out the sky, while others like the Zillertal are broad with side valleys stretching out towards the sun.

The Zillergrund – home to the source of the River Ziller – reaches as far as the Italian border. Experience a pristine natural world in a hiking area with an unspoilt atmosphere. As part of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park, the landscape and its flora and fauna are protected from car exhaust emissions and pollution.

You can only explore the area by bus, on foot or by bicycle. The main access road into the Zillergrund valley is a toll road, which is also open to cars. This unobtrusive and respectful relationship with nature has great benefits for outdoor enthusiasts.
